The town of Avalon on Catalina Island (population: 3,750) is serviced by ferries and helicopters departing from Long Beach and San Pedro, and helicopter from Burbank.   An hour away from home by ferry, it’s a world away from the stresses of life “Over Town.”  Activities to enchant young and old include beach swimming, amazing snorkeling and diving, fishing charters, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, and bike riding.

Avalon facilities include fine and casual dining options, the only private beach with bar service in California, a luxurious new day spa, a canyon-spanning zip line, boat and semi-submersible submarine tours, back-country jeep rides, a nine-hole golf course, a historic movie theater in the iconic Casino building, a themed miniature golf course– even beach blanket bingo!

The fascinating history of the island is revealed in many preserved locations in or near the town center and at the Catalina Island Museum.

All of these attractions are within a short walk from Vans’ Camp.
